Living in Barceloneta can sometimes feel a bit claustrophobic. Especially in wintertime when the sun hardly reaches into the narrow streets. Of course there is the escape to the beach, but sometimes you just need to see things from above to keep on going.
In that case I escape to my favourite rooftop. All I have to do is cross over the Joan de Borbo boulevard, find my way through all the people and busy restaurants in the yacht harbour and enter the museum for Catalan History. There I take the elevator to the 4th floor and walk to the 1881 restaurant. If you walk through the restaurant you will get to the terrace. An oasis of light, space and an amazing view awaits you.
It’s perfect for a coffee on a sunny morning. The sun will boost your energy to get you ready for a new day. But even for an aperitif at the end of a long day I love to go there.
It can be crowded in summertime, so especially then I avoid the busy moments like lunch and dinner. The food is a bit expensive, but the prices for coffee and other drinks are normal. I actually don’t even know if the food is good since I only go there to enjoy the view with a drink and reset myself to continue the day back down there.
