Bakeries are among the most common types of food stores in Belgrade, and in the rest of Serbia as well. This means that in any neighbourhood, you can find a nice bakery offering warm pastries, bread, or burek. In my neighbourhood, one of the most popular (as there are many) local bakeries is Friteza, a small corner bakery located near the botanical garden. Friteza always has warm, fresh pastries and very welcoming and polite staff, who are very skilled in dealing with a buzzy morning crowd. Even though the lines can get quite long, they're efficient, and you won't have to wait too long for your turn.
Every morning around breakfast time, a line forms in front of this bakery, with people waiting to come in and choose their morning meal. Friteza offers typical bakery products like meat or cheese burek, meat, cheese, and mushroom pies, various types of bread, and my favourite, warm pogačice. I never skip buying these when I visit. Other delicious options include papuča (which means "slipper") and triangles—puff pastry filled with cheese. The variety of choices is extensive, and you can't go wrong with any of them.
Additionally, this bakery is right across the street from Kafograf café, so you can enjoy your breakfast with a great cup of coffee.
