Just a couple of blocks from home in Back Bay, I spot a restaurant with a floral entrance. Inside, lush greenery and leafy wallpaper create a tropical oasis. The cozy and inviting atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for brunch. As I contemplate whether to sit at the sleek marble bar, I ultimately choose a table. I place my order— a Provençal omelette and a rose-infused coffee— but can’t resist adding French toast to my meal. It turns out to be an excellent decision; the dish is absolutely divine.
As the café fills up, a crowd gathers outside, joining the waitlist. Founded by Anaïs and Antoine Lambert couple, Café Sauvage blends French cuisine with African spices, honoring their heritage.
While brunch is a standout experience here, I’m eager to return for dinner. The evening menu features highlights such as French Onion Soup, the signature Sauvage Burger, Roasted Chicken, and Nutella Crepes. The Roasted Chicken, inspired by Anaïs’ mother’s Senegalese recipe, is one of the menu’s most popular dishes. The Nutella Crepe is simply indulgent— generously filled with velvety hazelnut spread and topped with a luscious bananas anglais sauce and caramelized bruleed bananas.
A unique feature of Café Sauvage is its “French Touch Dinner,” held on the last Wednesday of every month. This special event is exclusively for French speakers, offering a fully immersive dining experience where guests converse entirely in French. A prix-fixe menu is available for the occasion, and reservations are a must!
