A favorite spot in the city doesn't necessarily have to be a single place. One of my favorite places are two streets. A part of the Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat and the Walpoortstraat is vivid in a way I absolutely like. I can find a piece of everything, so I can spend a whole day there.
Starting in the morning with a coffee at OR espresso bar. After a relaxing morning you can often find me in shops like Rewind Men, when I'm looking for a more unique classy or hip piece.
At Music Mania you can find old and brand new vinyls. This music store has a long history in this street. It's their third location, but it only gets better. After listening and buying some vinyls, Vooruit is the next stop. The biggest cultural place in the city. As a guide I take people on a tour in this building through the 367 rooms and I can tell you, it is one of the most impressive buildings in Ghent. Across the street, there is a new hostel 'Backstay'.
Also worth a visit in this street are PIET moodshop for an original gift and the Marimain for a late night drink. The name Marimain comes from the former owner Mary Brouillard and Ghent-born comedian Romain Deconinck. The statue in front of the Minard theatre next to Marimain is Romain. Do like me, sit next to him on the stairs on a sunny evening, he's great company.
