One of the benefits of not living in the city center is being closer to the local habits. One of them is the Sunday market in Ledeberg. A lot of people find it strange to spend a Sunday morning on a square under a church. But the atmosphere is amazing. You can find all kinds of people over here, young, old, with dogs, with kids, with purple hair, without hair...
I love to hang out with friends and a sparkling wine at the mobile wine bar talking to people you don't know. Even now when winter is coming. Buying flowers to bring color into the living room, listening to the market vendor who uses the most poetic and lyrical words to praise his merchandise. It makes me happy.
There is absolutely one stall I always visit. Right across from the mobile wine bar there is an old lady who sells fruits and vegetables. She always calls me 'meneerke', which is Dutch for 'little man' while I'm 1.86m and she says goodbye by saying 'see you next week'. Of course I'll come back then! At the stall 'De volle maan' I buy different kinds of cheese, perfect as an appetizer. Even in the winter.
For the music lovers who are not into downloading or cd's, you can still find music cassettes over there. Only at Ledeberg market.

"Sint-Pietersstation" is a very beautiful train station in Ghent. Instead of running to catch my train I take the time to look around me.

"Ghent by Light" at night is just amazing. It always makes me feels like I'm inside a fairytale. Get a map of the whole walk and enjoy the two-hour path!

"Prinsenhof" is an area of nice streets and a quiet place to walk in Ghent. For me the best part is the flea market on the first Sunday of September.

"Keizerpark" is probably one of the 'newest' parks in Ghent, at least the restored, modern and simple part. I cross it every day over the bike bridges...

"Soepplus" Ghent has a great combination of flavours and textures. This is why Soepplus is one of my favourite lunch spots for soup & salad.

Ghent's carillon plays music every 15 minutes from the belfry chosen by vote every 2 years. This is Unesco-World-Heritage music, and we're proud of it!

"Au bon marché" is a charming little jewelry store. I'm not fooling you, the interior is as retro-French as it sounds. Just go and spoil yourself!

"Antiek-Depot" in Ghent is an antique store with a big garage full of design and vintage furniture. I bought 3 old cinema chairs there...
