The Amsterdam was formerly known as the Brunswick as it is situated on Brunswick Street and next to the hotel. Since the takeover in January this year, the Amsterdam has created a unique style of dive bar that Glasgow has so desperately needed. When you walk in to the long bar, the walls are adorned with old-school mirrors and typical Amsterdam paraphernalia. There are bikes hanging from the ceiling, hundreds of beer coasters covering the walls and some of the more ‘risqué’ signage to catch your eye.
Pretty much every drink you would crave would be found lined up against the back wall. Cocktails, German beers or their legendary pickle backs are all favourites with the locals. And of course what is a bar without some food to step up and meet the mark. Dive bar food consists of big delicious burgers, loaded fries and some of the most coveted chicken wings in the city centre. All matched with generous portion sizes and reasonable prices.
You can pop into the Amsterdam anytime but things really get going on a Friday and Saturday night. The resident DJs are always around to play a great set and get everyone singing, drinking and dancing - even the bar staff! If you’re lucky enough to catch sunshine in Glasgow, sit outside while the music flows into the street and watch the world go by with a drink in hand.
