Fireside dining in Yirmibir (21) Ocakbasi is my favorite winter activity. I have a lot of reasons. It is located in Beyoglu, in the historical Passage Hazzopulo, which is a special reminder of the historic abundance of Istanbul.
Yirmibir Ocakbaşı is a meeting point for me and my closest circle. It's a grill restaurant with an open fire pit in the middle. Every time I think of eating kebab and raki, it is the first place that comes to my mind.
The owners have two restaurants across the street from each other: Yirmibir and Kevok Ocakbasi. Yirmibir has a more historical touch in architecture, interior and ambience. It is ideal for small groups and couples. Kevok has a little modern touch and is more like a fine dining restaurant and better for large groups.
There are 3 floors in Yirmibir and the ground floor is my favorite one. Sitting around the Ocak and watching my dinner being cooked is a mouthwatering experience. Adana Kebab, shish kebab, and Gavurdagi salad, grilled eggplant meze are all must-taste. Don't forget to try their homemade turnip juice with hot sauce. I have to add that the service is unbeatable and the staff incredibly lovely and friendly. Have a nice dinner!

Turkish Tea is had after each meal, and it's a reflection of hospitality. When in Istanbul, have it at small local tea houses in Sultanahmet.
