Cineteca is an incredible movie theater inside the contemporary art center "Matadero de Madrid", where you can watch independent films and documentaries for no more than € 4. In fact, it's the first and only cinema in Spain dedicated almost exclusively to the non-fiction film.
Every weekend Cineteca hosts the premiere of important films, and all Wednesdays they exhibit a movie for free. They also have very interesting collaborations and film festivals almost every month.
And if you add Cantina to this plan you have a perfect afternoon plan ahead! Cantina is the bar next door to Cineteca. It's located in the remodeled old boiler of Matadero, a very interesting space where I always find the best snacks for before or after the screening: pizzettas, sandwiches, cakes... The bar is one of my favorites in Madrid: wooden tables, candles, flowers, good music, and a really cozy terrace. "Olivia te cuida" is in charge of the kitchen, a guarantee that everything is homemade and natural. (Remember it's closed on Mondays!)
Finally, if you have time or just want to relax and take a walk, Cineteca is located in the Madrid Rio area, a huge and beautiful park that runs along the bank of Manzanares river.
