Santa Eulalia Patisserie Madrid

Cakes and Ruins

"The real stars of the show are Santa Eulalia's luxurious cakes, cookies and pastries. They use only the best ingredients and traditional wood ovens."

Quite often in Madrid, I find myself heading to one place only to be completely distracted by somewhere else. On my way from the Ópera metro station to the San Isidoro museum, I was pulled into the Santa Eulalia Patisserie by the gorgeous foliage lining their front door. I can't resist somewhere beautiful like this.

Coming here is like taking a trip to Paris. The lovely decor of old-world furniture, books, and plants caught my eye first. I just wanted to grab a seat and find a way to stay here forever. But this is a patisserie after all, so soon enough, my attention turned to the real stars of the show, Santa Eulalia's luxurious cakes, cookies and pastries. Trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, chef Jose Alberto Trabanco uses only the best ingredients and traditional wood ovens to passionately create all of the delicious treats offered here. They are true works of art!

As I visited after lunch, I could only manage a simple chocolate cookie and coffee, and both were delicious. But the Red Velvet and pistachio mini cakes were certainly calling my name. Santa Eulalia Patisserie also has a menu of nice offerings of eggs and toast, so breakfast here will be a must one day!

And the surprises don't end there. Make your way into the adjacent room to find amazing exposed brick walls surrounding more tables and glass-covered ruins of an 11th Century Christian wall. For indulgent, handmade delights, this is your place.

CaixaForum Madrid

Beautiful art space

"CaixaForum Madrid" is a good alternative to the nearby, more touristy Prado and Reina Sofia. It's beautiful, cool and quite small if you have limited time
