Parque Santander had a major refurbishment about 18 months ago and locals and visitors alike are enjoying all the new and improved features.
If you are a runner who doesn’t want to slack on your holiday, Parque Santander has a 1.2k track that runs all the way around it. There are children’s playgrounds for various ages and abilities, as well as public volleyball and basketball courts you can use for free. There are places for roller skating, “petanca” (a bowling game) and chess tables. Really something for everyone!
There are also 8 “pádel” courts, which can be reserved and paid for online. If you’ve never heard of pádel, look it up! It’s a bit like tennis, and is one of the most popular sports in Spain! As well as pádel courts, hockey pitches, beach volleyball courts, and football pitches are also reservable. You need to make an account if you want to take advantage of these facilities, something to think about if you are staying in Madrid for a while.
If none of these activities appeal, don’t worry — there are lovely shaded areas to sit, beautiful fountains, many trees and scented living walls. Have a picnic, read a book, take a walk and do some people watching.

The museum is big and every inch of the Museo del Traje is enjoyable, but my favourite part is their magnificent display of traditional Spanish costumes.
