I envy the owners of this location. The terraza de Atenas is a superb spot, as it's in the middle of the Parque de Atenas. Many people ignore its existence, as it's below the Viaducto de Segovia bridge. It's kind of out of the tourist ring and therefore unseen. Neighbouring the gardens of the Palacio Real and close to the river Manzanares, it provides fresh air and calm isolation.
Terraza Atenas is a modern bar with some hipster hints. I'm not too much into the hipster scene and its hype, but this outdoor bar is more than doable. Their cocktails are not too expensive for its location and fit perfectly with the glamorous setting. You may chat with friends by their stand-up tables, sit at the tables for a restaurant feeling or chill on their singular podium.
One important update since its launch years ago is the installation of a small swimming pool on the side of the podium. It provides the possibility of sitting with your feet inside the refreshing water while chilling with your drink. It's an outstanding place to forget about time while having a drink when the night begins to crawl in.
I would recommend, after a walking tour in the city centre, a small pit stop to check the stunning views from el ventorillo. Afterwards, walk below the Viaducto de Segovia and rest at Terraza de Atenas and spend the night there.
