Bookstores have always been my safe space. They are spaces where it feels as if time has stopped and you can take your time to decide what to read next. Nonetheless, Murciélaga Librería is truly a unique bookstore compared to others in Mexico City. It is located in–what I would claim to be– one of the busiest streets in the city, Avenida Cuauhtémoc. However, do not let this discourage you! Murciélaga Librería is accommodated to create a soothing and spacious setting for you to relax in the midst of the city's chaos. Moreover, it is likely that you will encounter the owner's precious little helpers, his Afghan Hound and his Pitbull.
Because Murciélaga Librería is an independent bookstore, you can often find hidden gems (first editions etc) that you could not have found anywhere else! And if you are thinking "I don't want to buy any book in a language I do not fully comprehend", do not worry because besides the graphic novels and art books, they offer an English, German and French section too.
