""Plaza de la Romita" is a hidden jewel in La Roma, one of Mexico City's trendiest neighborhoods. It emits a peaceful atmosphere that's less & less common."

If you are visiting Mexico City for the first time, I am almost sure that you will frequent La Roma and I don't blame you. It is one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city. I myself visit La Roma regularly. However, if (or rather, when) you feel the need to get away from overpriced restaurants and touristy spots without leaving the neighborhood, Plaza de la Romita is the perfect spot for that.

The space has a fountain in its center, it is surrounded by trees, and it is accompanied by one of the city's oldest churches. Plaza de la Romita emits a peaceful atmosphere that is becoming less and less common in Mexico City. This spot was an islet close to Tenochtitlan and the center of Aztacalco (a pre-hispanic pueblo).

Plaza de la Romita is culturally rich in many aspects. Besides its historic importance, it was also an important setting for one of Luis Buñuel's famous film "Los Olvidados". Today, you can visit La Romita and admire the temple (you can also sit and respectfully watch the masses), visit and shop at the local huerto located right beside the church or just relax and enjoy the surroundings.
