The Church of Sant’Ambrogio is an important church in Milano because it was built by the patron of the city, Ambrogio. He built this church in the 5th century AD, and during the centuries, it was renewed, becoming what you can find now.
It’s the most interesting example of Romanesque architecture in Italy, and above all, it gives a clue about the type of Romanesque style in the region of Lombardia, which is quite different from the French or other Italian styles. When you get into the church you can feel the history behind it, you can see the mixture of styles inside. You can look at the sarcophagus of the Roman Empire period, to the beautiful mosaic of the saint, and you can even meet Sant Ambrogio himself. No, the writer of the article is not crazy, he’s serious. In fact, under the altar, there is the mummified body of the Saint.
The place is not far from Castle Sforzesco, but unfortunately, not many tourists visit it because they don’t know about this spot, which is one of the jewels of the city, a bit hidden because of the jealousy of the locals.
