Le Pick-Up is probably the best depanneur in the ever-expanding Mile-End district (actually it's located in the north part called the Mile-ex; Mile-End + Parc-Extension). The place looks very old school and the staff will always make you feel at home. The vibe and decor remind me a lot of Brooklyn. You can eat at the counter or in the courtyard at picnic tables. There is nothing fancy on the menu, just good old snacks like sandwiches and burgers, but they specialize in natural ingredients and products that are hard to find like gluten-free beers.
On top of serving delicious and affordable food they hold cool events like poultry butchery workshops, how to make sausages, candied fruit workshop and how to make your own backyard smoker. You can check on their blog or website for announcements. Personally, I'm a big fan of their pulled pork sandwich, and if you don't eat meat, you can also have the veggie version.
Each gallery has its own mandate and style, so a trip to the area will almost always result in a wide assessment of contemporary art practiced in the city.

I was quite smitten with the gnocchi at Restaurant Marconi, not least because a portion of the price of the meal is shared with those in need around town.
