In the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district in the east end of Montreal, you’ll find not only major tourist attractions like the Olympic stadium and the botanical garden but a few less known places such as restaurants that are great for a meal or just a coffee. Les Affamés is a prime example, a bistro that’s not often found in guidebooks, but that’s popular with locals for weekend brunch.
Les Affamés serve typical fare alongside dishes with a bit of French or Belgian inspiration; Brussels Ceasar's salad for example, or smoked duck. They also have their own specialties and use fruits, vegetables and herbs grown in Quebec, as well as local cheeses. The restaurant has a homelike feel, and the waiter offered great service, with very detailed information about the food on the menu to help us decide what to order. I’ll definitely go back to try the ‘gaufres liégeoises’ again.
