Montreal is known for many things: warm in the summer, cold in the winter and it has numerous walls painted - the result of tight collaboration between the inhabitants, the city and street artists, but let's call them artists. There is each year the big mural festival taking place outdoors, the occasion to see new images come onto the walls.
But let us not limit street art to only spray painting because installation, projection at night or tape art is pretty cool too, actually anything that use existing surfaces as frames. One thing I like to witness is people playing with color, obviously, and tiles. So you may have encountered space invaders in many cities, if you've paid attention to your street surroundings.
Which brings me back to a bus ride I had once on Ontario street from Hochelaga to the Gay Village, or the other way around. I kept seeing large color tile art installations on walls. So I came back, following the same way and walking this time, to enjoy the work of artist Laurent Gaston one by one and I can only recommend you to do the same. An interesting path to discover the city.
