Moscow is famous for its ponds – Clean Ponds, Patriarshie Ponds, they are located in the center of the city and are popular among both locals and visitors.

Let me introduce to you Fermskie Prudy — a real hidden gem, located in Timiryazevsky District of Moscow. They are supervised by Russian State Agrarian University — Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy, and you can find them there, as a part of this educational institution.

In fact, there are three of those, but the Middle Pond — the other two are called ‘Upper’ and ‘Lower’ — is the easiest to access. They were projected back in the 18th century and are called ‘Fermskie’ (derived from ‘Fermerskie’, or ‘Farmers’) because of the farm they were based on. It was a Dutch-type farm and Emperor Peter the Great had founded it. The farm itself was located near Petrovsko-Razumovkoe estate.

Today, it is truly a peaceful place where you can go to relax and reflect. And of course, it is a good reason to visit this part of the city, to wander along those streets far away from busy central avenues, and face a totally different Moscow, as if you had traveled across eras.

On Fermskie Ponds you will find ducks, gliding silently around the pond. It is especially picturesque in fall when all the leaves turn yellow and red. There you will also meet students from Timiryazev Agrarian Academy, as there are their dorms nearby. Everyone keeps silent, observing this beauty of nature, and thinking.
