Moscow is famous for the diversity of theatres, which can offer you an enormous quantity of plays, musicals, operas, operettas... I believe that theatres are something that makes this city special for me. But for foreigners feeling this atmosphere is quite difficult, because the language barrier stops them from understanding our theater.
However, we shouldn't forget about musical theaters! Music is absolutely international. One of the best musical theaters in Moscow is The Natalya Sats Musical Theater. Formally it was called "The Moscow State Academic Children's Music Theater Named After Natalya Sats".
Originally, it is meant to be a theater for children. At the very beginning, only performances for little ones were shown here. And now the whole atmosphere in the theater is very soft, kind, and a bit childish. Musical New Year fairytales are very pleasant here. In general, this theater is amazing for introducing children to the world of music. Opera-fairytale "Thumbelina", ballet "The Nutcracker", operetta-fairytale "Snow White" or ballet "Cinderella" would be great for the small ones, while rock-classic opera "Lord of the flies" or detective-ballet "Sherlock Holmes" can be admired by the older children or teenagers.
However, nowadays in The Natalya Sats Theater you can watch serious ballet and opera, too. The situation has changed, so the repertoire was filled up with many performances for grown-ups. To tell you the truth, I never saw any modern performances here, but classical ones (the works of Tchaikovsky and Mozart, for instance) are of very high quality.
