This little ice cream stand sits in the middle of a suburban public square at the Underground Station Thalkirchen: a popular station for accessing both the Zoo in Munich and a section of the Isar used by locals for swimming, grilling and chilling.
Gelatobi provides your beloved standard ice cream choices, but it also goes one step further with its flavours. What do you conjure in your mind with the words 'Prosecco-Honey-Lavender'? How about a little 'White Chocolate Pistachio' or 'Mozart Ice cream'? Too sweet for you? Try 'Chocolate Chilli' or 'Salty Peanut!'
If you are stuck with someone like me who loves ice cream but yourself are just along for the ride, they also have a simple coffee and beverage menu.
On those super sunny days, this little stand can have a line that weaves all over the square. On any day of the week, either so much is happening here, or nothing at all. Some days there is a local food market, other days buskers sit around playing music while children dance in front of them. You will also find a book swap stand to peruse: most books are in German but every once in a while I find an English gem in there.
I almost forgot to mention that not only are the names of the ice cream flavours lucrative, but the quality and taste are also good! And in my experience, this ice cream stand always has service with a big smile.
