""Arheološki Park Principij" or the archaeological site in central Rijeka is a chill place where you can see the remains of the Roman-era high command..."

Between drinking beer in Harat's pub or eating in BAR BAR, it is time for sightseeing. You don't even have to walk so far. From BAR BAR's terrace you can enjoy the view over Principia - the military headquarters of Roman Tarsatica.

The Principia was a complex of military administrative buildings in the late antiquity and a standard part of all Roman fortresses and military settlements as their administrative and religious center. It was built in the second half of the 3rd century and collapsed at the beginning of the 5th century.

After a long period of time, from the 15th century onwards, several smaller residential houses were built on the ruins of the Principia, which remained here until the 1960s. They were built on the well-preserved perimeter walls of the Principia.

The archaeological park was opened for the public in 2014, after a lot of digging up and renovating the Principia. Nowadays, it is used as an open space for various of events and for the relaxation of tourists.

Also, if you want Instagrammable photos, don't skip the Principia.
