Astronomical Center Rijeka
Under the stars
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by space and astronomy. And if you, too, love to gaze at the night sky and wonder what else is there, you might want to visit the Astronomical Center.
The center is the only institution of its kind in Croatia that has both an observatory and a digital planetarium. The observatory is equipped with an astronomic telescope that allows visitors to observe celestial objects, while the state-of-the-art planetarium hosts film projections and themed presentations displayed on the stunning dome spanning over the audience. While most films and shows are in Croatian, they'll be happy to accommodate other visitors with films in foreign languages. After all, a projection of the night sky knows no language barrier!
Getting there might require some effort, as the Astronomical Center is located on the Sv. Križ (Holy Cross) hill well outside the city center. If you're not driving, it's best to take a taxi or the city bus no.7.
Another thing I love about this place is the café on the rooftop terrace, which has one of the most spectacular views of the city and the entire Kvarner Bay. A proper treat for the end of your visit!
