Unlike other coastal cities in Croatia, Rijeka isn't very big on souvenir shops. Generally speaking, I'm thankful for that, as I don't want to imagine our streets and promenades overflowing with kitschy magnets and overpriced t-shirts. However, if you want to get a little token to remind you of your trip, what is there to do? Enter Croatia in a Box, a lovely concept shop in the Old town. Their philosophy is best summed up in their tag line 'so delicious, so Croatian' - traditional, authentic, high-quality products that are all locally made.
They select only the best of Croatian products, ranging from olive oil and wine to sweets and jam. The goodies are assembled in colourful gift boxes (hence the shop's name) adorned with Croatia's traditional symbols and ornaments. From the distinctive design to the delight-inducing content, the boxes are a treat in every possible aspect and make for perfect presents. You'll also find a range of clothing, accessories and homeware made by Croatian designers.
