Cukarikafe might be the sweetest place in town - and not only for its name, which stands for sugar and coffee in the local dialect. Tucked away in the Old town, this darling café takes up several interconnected spaces and two open air terraces, one on each side of the bar.
The shabby chic interior is a proper cabinet of curiosities; mismatched retro tables and chairs, charming artwork, old books and vintage bits and bobs all over the place. On the outside, the larger multi-leveled terrace overlooks a treasured pocket of our town - remains of an ancient Roman settlement that nowadays occasionally hosts various cultural events.
Save for the soft lounge music in the background or a burst of laughter coming from a nearby table, Cukarikafe is one of the most tranquil spots in the city. There's nothing to disturb the peace, since the café is well hidden from the most frequented routes in the centre.
They have great options for brunch which you can pair with coffee or one of their fresh juices. Too late for brunch? Check out their fantastic selection of beers on tap; it's a nice mix of local craft beers and international hits, 16 taps mounted on an eye-catching dark wall.
