Rijeka has catholic, orthodox and other churches. You can also find a synagogue in Rijeka. We are a very open-minded city. A few years ago, we got the most beautiful mosque in Europe. I am glad that we have this mosque. If not, probably I would have probably never met imam Mujkanović, the former head of Muslim community in Rijeka, who showed me their world from the other side.

Rijeka’s mosque is located on Gornji Zamet, about a 15/20-minute drive by car. It was opened to the public in 2013. Islamic center is a huge complex. It has three fountains, the restaurant “Nur” which is open to all visitors, a versatile hall for social and cultural gatherings, a divanhana – a special room intended for women’s conversations — and also the kindergarten for preschool children. The prayers part can receive up to 1,400 believers. Also, from the terrace in front of the mosque, you can enjoy the beautiful view over Kvarner’s bay.

It is worth visiting. It will leave you speechless. You will feel different. You will feel free. You will feel like part of the whole world.
