One of the best ways to explore a new city is by running through it. My favorite route takes you across three of the city's most iconic bridges: the Erasmus Bridge, the Willems Bridge, and De Hef. This 8.7 km loop offers stunning views, especially during sunrise or sunset when the light turns magical. You can also walk the route if you prefer a slower pace. Just don’t forget your phone, the photo opportunities are great!
I usually start and end in The Park. From there, the route follows the water through the charming Veerhaven, where historic boats line the docks. Continue along the waterfront to the Erasmus Bridge. Pro tip: go under the bridge first and then cross it, this way you avoid traffic lights. Take your time on the bridge to admire the skyline.
After crossing, turn left and follow the water to Noordereiland via De Hef. Then return to Rotterdam North over the red Willems Bridge. As you follow the river back, spot your country's flag in the international flag parade. Finally, head under the Erasmus Bridge once more to return to The Park.
Want a shorter version? Skip The Park and start at one of the bridges. Want to extend it? Add Katendrecht or for the bold, include the Maastunnel for a grand finale.
