What a solitary and romantic atmosphere! This is exactly what Kamennyi (Stone) Island is famous for. Despite the fact that here is the most expensive property in St. Petersburg and the population of the island is represented by the richest social class, it offers enough places for relaxation and walks in the fresh air.
The park Tikhiy Otdykh is one of these “health zones“. It's a quiet place, drowning in greenery, which also offers some interesting sights that can be interesting to history lovers. Located almost in the center of the Stone Island the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist was built in the 18th century. It’s not only an architectural monument but also an active Orthodox church which is opened for visiting.
You still have a chance to not only enjoy the nature of this park, but also observe the remnants of historical estates. Some of them were used as sanatoriums, others as public institutions. Unfortunately, many estates have been destroyed and turned into “picturesque” ruins. Modern officials and architects came up with an effective plan for the renewal of the past elegant beauty.
However, most of them have been turned into the private property after renovation. Nevertheless they are still visible and you can walk around the park alleys and imagine that you are still in the times of Imperial Russia. Interesting, but the park is not crowded at all.
