The Manege... through the centuries, this building has turned from a historical riding hall into one of the city’s leading exhibition venues. It's located at the beginning of Konnogvardeysky boulevard - a historical quarter of the Horse Guards regiment.
I recall the last time I was here. It was in 2006, at an international tourism trade fair. During those times, the Manege was known as a place mainly for trade fairs and a market for locals (for things such as fur coats) :)
Just some time ago when the coronavirus restrictions were lifted, I was invited to a photo exhibition "As they see us. A portrait of Russia by Magnum Agency." - an insight into the USSR/Russia through the work of legendary documentary photographers. Frankly speaking, I was pretty skeptical before visiting it, still remembering the trade fairs from the beginning of the 2000s. Can you imagine my surprise when I saw a perfectly organized exhibition with innovative facilities, correct translations in English, friendly staff and a true atmosphere of art and culture?
The photo exhibition itself impressed me so much, I decided to write about it here to let people know that the Manege is not a place for just trade markets anymore -- it's a well organized and innovative space located in the heart of the city which is still unfairly avoided by many locals and the guests of St. Petersburg.
