Since its opening just over 3 years ago, Kazbegi has earned and maintained its reputation as one of the most authentic Georgian restaurants in the city. Formerly located in Golitsyn Loft it has recently moved to a new location on Furhtatskays Street - opposite the Lutheran Annenkirche. Once you find the restaurant you will be greeted by the friendly staff.
The restaurant interior is as if you have walked into your Caucasian granny's living room - eclectic, unfussy and homely. Exposed brickwork, wooden benches, subdued lighting and lace tablecloths add to the feel. The menu offers everything you'd expect from a Georgian restaurant - khinkali (stuffed savoury dumplings), khachapuri - the ubiquitous Georgian flat-bread stuffed with lashings of suluguni cheese and much more. Prices are reasonable and the portions generous.
I love visiting this restaurant because, as a regular, a seat will always be found, and you often bump into friends. On one memorable occasion, the Georgian group Mzagvrebi popped in for a post-performance meal and provided a spontaneous singalong - it made a change from hearing their recorded voices on the speakers...
