In a city of 23 hours bookshops there is a lot of competition, but recent arrival on the scene Vo Ves' Golos (At Full Voice) does just the trick. It is located on the corner junction between hipster streets Nekrasov and Mayakovskogo (a range of bars/cafes/restaurants are within easy reach) and directly opposite the statue of the poet to whom the street owes its name - Vladimir Mayakovsky. He once lived in the building opposite, and his bust shares earnestly into the sop from the square opposite.
Don't be put off by the huge bust of the poet himself in the middle of the bookshop!
The shop is small but welcoming, elegantly laid out and one of those places that it is difficult to leave without wanting to make a purchase - whether for yourself or as a gift to take home. Bright, white shelves hold a whole range of fascinating volumes. This is a specialist bookshop - with sections devoted to architecture, history, art, literature, philosophy and the history of the city, to name but a few.Â
There is a small cafe at the back serving tea/coffee cakes and pastries, should you decide to peruse your tome of choice over a hot drink.Â
They regularly hold 'meet the author' events.
