As you have already probably heard, St. Petersburg is famous for its wellyards, and you’ve probably checked out some of them. I would like to show you another one which I found out about not such a long time ago. It’s located in the Petrogradsky district, not far from the subway station “Sportivnaya”.
Why is it so interesting? Because this is the only well-yard which has an octagonal form! Some locals associate these forms with the octagonal Maltese cross and the courtyard of the Mikhailovsky Castle.
Having entered the yard, I noticed a cast-iron tree that “grew out” from right in the middle of the yard. People believe that if you touch one of the leaves of this tree and make a wish, then it will definitely come true.
Sometimes, it seems that all wellyards to St. Petersburg are built only to make wishes, as most of the yard legends say that.
The yard is always open, so you don’t need a code to open the gate.
