Sarajevo offers a lot of great food like cevapcici or burek, but sometimes, when I want to go eat something healthier, I will go to Ascinica ASDZ.
Ascinica is a type of restaurant that dates back to the 15th century. It is a traditional canteen that uses genuine recipes and homemade ingredients to create authentic Bosnian food that can be seen at any Bosnian family home.
Asdzinica ASDZ was opened in 1995 in Sarajevo, some 30 meters away from Franz Ferdinand's assassination site. The menu is a la carte, so I can create my own 3 course meal easily. That is why the prices are a lot cheaper compared to other restaurants. Also, you do not have to wait for the food to be prepared, so it is ideal for people who do not have a lot of time, like students and workers. So the best hours to go to any ascinica is between 11:00 and 14:00, because the food is the freshest. Unlike most restaurants in Sarajevo, Ascinica ASDZ is also vegeterian friendly!
My ideal combo is "Begova Corba" with "Hadzijski Cevap" and "Hurmasica" as dessert. There are also a lot of great salads, side dishes etc.
I visisted Aščinica ASDŽ once again after the reopening and I must say the food is as good as always. Nothing can stop the tradition!. I realized how much do I enjoy creating my own meal combo.
