While Ahvenisjärvi, situated in the southern Tampere neighborhood of Hervanta, looks more like a large pond rather than a lake, it has one major attraction. During the warmer seasons, many squirrels and birds, such as pigeons, seagulls, ducks and if you're lucky, the occasional swan can be found on the trail that surrounds it, waiting to be fed by passersby!
Especially the squirrels aren't shy to come up to humans and beg for food. So be prepared to have a bag of unsalted nuts or something similar with you when you want to check out Ahvenisjärvi during the spring or summer. If you're lucky, the squirrels might climb up, or the birds might perch on your arm and eat straight out of your hand! And if you're not a fan of feeding animals, you can simply sit on one of the benches all around the lake, relax and enjoy the view.
