There's enough sushi restaurants around Tampere, but none of them also offer what one would call "real" Japanese food. Even in Tampere, people would like to experience authentic cuisine from halfway across the globe, and luckily, Japanese restaurant Fujimi is an establishment that delivers!
The Tampere-born, Japanese owner and head chef made it his mission to spread Tokyo food culture in Finland, and in my opinion, he does not disappoint! The restaurant itself might not be a particularly large space, but the quality of the food is definitely grand!
The first time I actually heard of Fujimi was a few years back, through a few Japanese exchange students at the University of Tampere, whom I had befriended at the time. They took me to Fujimi, full of praise, and they even compared the food to their mom's home-cooking! If that isn't a compliment, I don't know what is! From time to time, I visit Fujimi together with my girlfriend on special occasions, enjoying a nice Torikatsu-don, a bowl of miso soup and karaage on the side!
