In many cities, the best restaurants are neither on the main street nor in the heart of the city. Lillan kök is not an exception to this rule.
In Viinikka suburb, a few kilometers from the railway station, there is an utmost gem of a restaurant. There is also a lovely unique boutique hotel in this charming blue wooden villa.
The deco of this quite small restaurant is planned with the heart. The service is excellent. And the Finnish-French style food from the local ingredients (e.g. pike, pike-perch, reindeer...) is more than amazing.
There are two 5-course menus available, and one of them is vegetarian. From my experience, I can tell you that the starters will blow your mind, as will the main course. Even I was very pleased with the dessert, although I don't usually consider myself a sweet tooth.
If you like a unique and delicious food experience, this is the place to go to. I have visited many times all the fine dining and also the more casual restaurants in Tampere and in Tampere region, and now I have found the ultimate winner, Lillan kök. Now I'm waiting for the Michelin Guide to mention this secret gem!
I have also heard various rumours that the brunch in Lillan kök is excellent. So I'm planning to test it soon.
Remember to book weeks in advance!
