A beautiful mansion of Näsilinna (also known as Milavida), is situated on top of Näsinpuisto hill facing towards the lake Näsijärvi. I had the chance to work here some time ago. And it's a place that definitely stole a piece of my heart away.
The mansion was built in 1897 by Peter von Nottbeck, but unfortunately, only his children lived there, and only for a while. All in all a sad story, but a beautiful place to visit In Tampere.
Näsilinna offers an amazing museum, a café and a restaurant (only for pre-booked groups, though). The mansion is definitely a place to visit, as it involves a lot of history of Tampere. You can see marks of the Finnish civil war, and you can also bump into a ghost. Oh yes, I have bumped into one!
The museum on the second floor is divided into two sections: one represents the history of the von Nottbeck family. The other section has alternating exhibitions, mostly in design, fashion or trends. The ticket to the museum can be bought from the café.
Whether it is a crisp winter day or a sunny summer afternoon, make sure you also take some time to walk around the beautiful garden and surroundings of Näsilinna. It's a magical place and you can really feel the history of Tampere there.
