I am a practicing Muslim and I do really respect other religions. Uzbekistan too is a predominantly Muslim country. However, next to the centuries-old mosques that are characteristic for how Tashkent looks, you can also find the Catholic cathedral in the center of town. It’s proof of my words above regarding the religious tolerance of the Uzbek people.
The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of several churches located in Uzbekistan. A couple of words about the history of the cathedral: its construction started in 1912. Prisoners of war were mainly involved in this process, among which there were many specialists – architects, engineers, sculptors, etc. The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a magnificent example of neo-Gothic architecture.
I really recommend visitors to visit this church. It’s a contrast to Islamic and Christian architecture.
