The Black Quail is a brand of bespoke leather goods, ranging from women's and men's bags to gloves and phone cases. TBQ's tagline is "Born in Uzbekistan", and indeed this is a brand that is emblematic of Uzbekistan's design revival. When it broke into Tashkent's scene, The Black Quail stunned with its clean-cut, modernist designs. The understated forms were a breath of fresh air. Using Uzbekistan's culture and history as inspiration, the brand creates designs that are instantly recognizable and functional.
Their prime material is genuine leather, made from cowhide. It is mostly sourced in Uzbekistan, with some exclusive items from Italy and other places. You can pick up a classic wallet, a notebook in a unique cover, or an unusual backpack. Price tags vary but are appropriate for the amount of leather and labor that go into the item.
TBQ has two stores in Tashkent -- this spot is the bigger location. It's well-lit and fun to browse due to the interesting interior design and layout. Occasionally they do not have something in stock in this shop, but salespeople are happy to direct you to the other or call for the item to be delivered to this location, where you can pick it up on another day. And the cherry on top - they offer laser engraving on most items, to make a perfect gift even more special!
