Rootz bills itself as a cafe and restaurant, but it's also a bar and a grill, and besides that, just as much an intersection of many of the best things The Hague has to offer. Rootz has a spacious area for outdoor seating, a vast beer selection that numbers in the hundreds, and a location adjacent to both the Grote Marktstraat and Grote Markt itself, probably the street and square with the highest foot traffic in the city. One might expect that the party might never end.
Yet inside you are treated to high ceilings, wood floors and other saloon-style accoutrements that confirm that Rootz can be an oasis from the city's increasingly hectic nightlife. Here you'll find couples by candlelight sharing a fondue and a few local brews, families hosting friends from out of town with one special night, artists celebrating a recent sale over charcuterie and wine. During Corona Times, you'll need a reservation, but Rootz was gifted with ample seating, so even with social distancing, you can often simply show up and "reserve" a table immediately.
The menu includes different types of milk tea, fruit tea, matcha lattes, and coffee. They also serve seasonal drinks and croffles (a type of Korean waffle with either sweet or savory toppings).

When you enter it feels cosy and you are greeted by friendly personnel. There is an open kitchen concept, so you can see the chefs preparing meals.

I discovered this bakery by surprise when I was taking a shortcut through the city centre. It is located in the middle of the city centre and yet it's quite secluded.

"Clingendael Bos" in The Hague is one of several large forests in the city. This one has bunkers left over from WWII where I love playing with my kids!

The history of "Kloosterkerk" in The Hague, my neighborhood's church, goes back in time, but a little known fact is that it's where Fahrenheit is buried!

On a nice summer evening, I can think of few better things than taking out a canoe or kayak and paddling the canals in The Hague!

"Zebedeus" in The Hague is a restaurant that has put the inside and outside of De Grote Kerk, the Big Church, to great use. They also have an amazing menu!

When looking through the window you can see people rushing by, but inside the store it is quiet and customers take their time to browse through the books.

What I particularly like about Spooky & Sue is that their items are displayed in an orderly way and clothes racks never seem to overflow.

"Park Clingendael" is one of the most beautiful green areas in The Hague. It and the manor it surrounds have a rich history. It even has its own beekeeper!

I tried the miso and “anko taiyaki” and I thought it tasted absolutely wonderful. Tokyo Taiyaki offers pastries with a gluten-free dough as well.
