This Art Deco building seems straight out of The Wizard of Oz. Make sure you look up, or you might miss it.
What I love about Casa Judía is that it's an extravagant oddity. You would expect it in a fantasy movie, not on an ordinary street in Valencia. The variety of colours and decorations is impressive. The building is a fine example of Valencian Art Deco with neo-Egyptian influences.
Juan Guardiola Martínez, a Valencian architect, built this house in 1930. The building's name, Casa Judía, or Jewish House, comes from the Star of David at its entrance. Its Jewish owner, José Salom, is likely the reason.
Casa Judia's history is just as unusual as its exterior. During the Spanish Civil War, a bomb narrowly missed it. The ground floor was once home to a dubious club and sauna, but it became Museo Iluziona in 2023. The upper floors still serve as apartments.
My favourite part is hidden inside the building. You catch a glimpse of the hallway through the ironwork at the entrance. The Art Deco starlit ceiling is splendid. It sparks your imagination about what other curiosities might be inside.
Casa Judía is near Ruzafa, a trendy neighbourhood in Valencia. The area boasts many art galleries, vintage shops, and cafes. For a unique art gallery experience, see the Sporting Club Russafa article. To find a cosy spot for a drink, read about Ubik Café.

One of my fondest memories of the city during summer is sitting by their giant-red-plastic cone and cooling down while having a delicious treat.
