"I love Valencia's Mercado de Colon! Smaller and less touristy than Mercado Central, it's perfect for relaxing. Enjoy gourmet products, bars, and horchata."

Valencia is famous for its markets, with Mercado Central being one of the biggest in Europe. Though I always enjoy its beauty and atmosphere, I am more addicted to Mercado de Colon (Columbus Market). It features the same astonishing Valencian Art Nouveau architecture style from the beginning of the XX century.

It was declared a national monument, impressive with its extraordinary facade and lavish decor. It is not as big and touristy as Mercado Central, and you can really relax and spend the whole day here. Though there is not so much to shop for here (mainly gourmet products) you can munch and drink at the numerous bars and restaurants or just enjoy famous Valencian horchata with fartons looking at how life goes by. Normally, there is a crafts market on the weekends. The location is between Colon Street and the fancy Russafa district, so the neighbourhood is also worth a visit.
