This bright and large mural, once visible to anyone walking or driving by Luxurious Dreamscape Bubble Bath is now hidden in an alley behind a new apartment building. For years, when I thought about murals and street art in Vancouver, this was the one that came to mind.
The artists David Ulock and Doug Nhung completed it in 2017 as part of the second Vancouver Mural Festival. Their goal was to combine two artistic styles into one, figurative art (Doug Nhung) and abstract art (David Ulock), and it really works. The variety of colours and shapes catch the eye, and the ethereal figure of the woman works well alongside these designs. The artists had to design their pieces to fit around over twenty windows, and it still looked seamless, showing their talent.
If you visit during summer, the alley is also a nice shady spot to cool off while exploring the area. It is fairly well-maintained and makes for a fun photo spot. If or when this mural is removed or painted over, I will be sad to see it go.
