The Creative Individual is a Vancouver-based mural, billboard and room painting company. The main muralist, Steve Hornung, has been doing murals for over ten years now. I discovered his work not too long ago, walking in the West end of Vancouver. I was stunned by a fantasy-like colorful wall by the back alley at the West End Community Center.
The blend of airbrushing and traditional brush painting is beautiful and the contrast makes the whole thing feels like it is about to pop out of the wall. It's a great spot to stop by on the way to the beach, or anywhere on Denman street, while being in the neighborhood. Vancouver can be really grey sometimes (especially in winter with all of the rain), but seeing things like these, it brightens up my days! Steve's work can also be seen at the Cambie Hostel or at the Beaumont studios 2 in Vancouver as well as in the city of New Westminster.
All of this is to remind locals like me and visitors to keep an eye open for artwork like this. I love that Vancouver is such a creative city! I find surprises in all types of places.
