Although the actual Vancouver Mural Festival takes place in the summer, these large-scale mural paintings can be visited at any time during the year. I hope you’re excited to get your camera out and capture the beauty & talent of these local artists.
The largest concentration of murals is around Main street, mostly because that’s where a lot of the artists live and work. That is probably the best place to start. As you’re making your way around the area, keep in mind that the murals aren’t organized by order or theme. Although they mostly cover current social and cultural issues that are ongoing in our city, each one stands out in its own way, and has its own style and story. I certainly have spent countless hours staring at a few of them during my walks in the neighborhood. To me, there’s just something soothing about having such expressive art available to you at any time of day.
In the spring and summer, they offer weekly tours, but private tours are available all-year round. You could also download the map and build your own itinerary. Either way, the murals are exquisite and definitely worth admiring. Check out their website for more information.
