Located just a couple of blocks east of busy Commercial Street, this pizzeria is a fine find, truly. Via Tevere holds a prestigious membership of the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, a title only shared by 12 other establishments in all of Canada. These first-generation Canadians spent their summers in Naples, so needless to say that pizza making is in their DNA.
You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see their little yellow car outside. It’s always parked up front. The inside has that cozy cantina feel, with their massive wood-burning oven taking center stage. If you’d like, you could sit at the counter and watch the boys work their magic. I’ve sat there several times and never get tired.
OK, now for the best part: the pizza is absolutely delightful! I go through phases where I only have the Margherita, but my all-time favorite is the Capricciosa. If you’re into the olive oil base, then I’d suggest the Quattro Fromaggi. For the ultimate cream base experience, then go with the Girasole. Or the Pancetta e Zucchine. Doesn’t matter, they’re all heavenly!
You can also find Via Tevere on their food truck around town. If you happen to be in the vicinity of Burrard or Pender Street during the week, keep an eye out. Although I'm pretty sure the smell of fresh pizza will reel you in.
