What a compelling combination: Great Italian Coffee and Cats. No wonder this place is packed with customers longing for a break. I visited in the week after opening and the quaint, airy coffeeshop "Barista Cats" was in full swing: Brimming with the bustle of the hip 7th district clientele and 4 cats that rule the larger of two guest rooms.
The owner cooperates with a local pet shelter and brought wonderful creatures to "work" on the relaxation of the customers. And it sure does relax you to cuddle up with one of the friendly cats or even just watch them do their own thing. I came here to have a light evening snack and loved the exquisite chickpea curry. The cafe offers weekly changing courses, quiche, and cakes, and a nice breakfast is served on weekends with the occasional "meow" here and there. Well-acclaimed "Caffee Vergagno", my favorite Italian coffee brand, will surely please sleepy cat lovers.
The cheerful owner personally introduces you to the cats and their likes and dislikes. Guarding the etiquette helps when you first visit the cafe and you may not have had lots of experience with cats before. The brightly lit loft-style guestrooms are simple, yet cozy. Soon, the temperatures will allow an outdoor seating area on Kandlgasse. That's exactly when dogs and their owners will also be able allowed to visit (even if only outside). The cellar of the coffee shop holds a party location, that will soon be ready for parties with cat-friendly fellows.
