How many republics inside republics do you know? I suppose you're now thinking - "Is that even possible?" I will give the simplest answer possible - Yes!
Užupis, aside from being one of the most attractive Vilnius city regions is also an independent republic. Just like that. They even have a president and an extraordinary constitution which is followed by every citizen of the republic. Although it isn't firmed by strict regime or any type of bureaucracy. The republic lives on because of the solidarity of the artsy, cheerful, free thinking people living there.
Anyways, it's still a republic. And every republic needs a symbol of some sort. So a decade ago in the central square of Užupis a 9 meter high statue was born. A statue better known as Užupis Angel, while the locals simply refer to it as The Angel.
I can't speak for others, but for me The Angel is the heart of Užupis and it attracts me at least for a little glance once in a while. The place is just iconic and if you haven't seen it yet - please get up and do so! And if you're planning to do that, don't miss out on a bar called Špunka (check out my article about Špunka), which is right next to the angel. Best beers and best times there, and all local!

"St.Francis & St.Anne's churches" is Vilnius' architectural spot that's perhaps a pride to the city, I'd argue at least! These churches are worth a visit.
