Bar Charley is in between Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan neighborhoods and you have to go down a few steps to go into it. To be honest, had my friend not been the one directing us, I would have walked by it without a second thought. We walked into a small, dimly lit bar, which reminded me of a speakeasy mixed with an intimate French bistro.
We decided to sit out back on the patio which was much less crowded. Bar Charley is known for their different types of poutine and cocktails and during happy hour the Tiki drinks are only $ 5. We decided to go off the grid though and ordered the Catalan fries instead of one of the three types of poutine, solely because it had a fried egg on top of the french fries. The portion size was huge and soaked up any alcohol that was in our systems from the super strong Tiki drinks…like the “Suffering Bastard”.
Update: I have just found out that Bar Charley does half-price steak night with a purchase of a bottle of wine or scorpion bowl…who knew steak and scorpion bowls went so well together!
