Jardenea is one of those unassuming hotel bars that actually turn out really good food. There's no shortage of farm to fork dining in Washington, DC, and Jardenea is another example of high quality food that showcases seasonal dining in a intimate setting.
Located in the lobby of the boutique Melrose hotel, the restaurant is quiet and classy. The menu offers a variety of American classics, most with a modern touch. While it does change seasonally, if the Brussels sprouts are on the menu, you absolutely must get it. Even if you don't normally like them. The version here is roasted to a nice crisp and served with creamy goat cheese. Delicious, and good for you too!
The mains section offers hearty classics such as grass-fed filet of beef, which you can expect to get cooked per your liking. The white truffle potato Dauphinoise that come alongside are simply divine, I could eat these every day! They also have lighter options - salads and seafood, if that's what you are in the mood for. Everything I've tried here has always been tasty and fresh, so you won't be disappointed.
You must save room for dessert though! If you are a chocolate lover, the molten chocolate cake is a must get!
What I really like about Jardenea is that it's an unexpected good find, the focus on local ingredients, friendly service, and the thoughtful cooking.
