ZPC - short for Zagrebački plesni centar - is a center for contemporary dance performances and education, just a few minutes away from Zagreb's main square. Performances are on the repertoire at least twice per week. Currently on the program there's the "Koreospektar" cycle whose goal it is to provide a space for young and aspiring dance artists to perform their pieces in front of an interested audience.
If you're an expat living in Zagreb and keen on experimenting and learning about movement, you might be interested in taking part in one of the many workshops of different contemporary dance styles. That's how I've actually become a regular visitor of ZPC. In September, at the beginning of the season of educational courses, there are open house presentations where you can go to try out different dance workshops and find what you like. Truth be told - I was aiming at a ballet-for-adults class that day, but it was scheduled as the first one in the morning on said Saturday and I'm just not a morning person... So I stumbled into the contemporary dance class later in the afternoon- and fell in love with my new hobby.
ZPC feels like a little escape into the world of art and performance, whether you're sitting in the audience or practicing yourself - the unreal, the imagined, the creative and finally the l'art pour l'art - a feeling one very much gets to miss in the messy buzz of everyday practicalities.
